Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has denied reports alleging that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative and local government positions ahead of the 2027 general election.

The governor clarified that his political alliance with the APC and other stakeholders was strictly intended to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election and did not extend to the allocation of elective offices.

Adeleke clarified a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, following social media reports suggesting that the political understanding included sharing seats in the Senate, House of Representatives, Osun State House of Assembly and local government councils.

The governor described the allegations as false, maintaining that no agreement had been reached to distribute legislative positions between Accord Party candidates and the APC.

He explained that ongoing negotiations concerning the local government crisis were aimed at protecting the interests of affected political stakeholders and restoring effective administration at the grassroots.

According to Adeleke, the discussions were intended to accommodate the interests of APC chairpersons as well as elected Peoples Democratic Party chairpersons and councillors.

He expressed confidence that the longstanding local government dispute would be resolved before the end of 2026.

The governor maintained that cooperation among the political groups supporting Tinubu did not prevent individual parties from contesting other elective positions independently.

He reaffirmed his commitment to campaigning for Accord Party candidates seeking seats in the National Assembly and Osun State House of Assembly.

Adeleke said the political understanding was limited to the presidential election, stressing that candidates contesting other positions would have to seek the support of voters through the electoral process.

The clarification follows the recent inauguration of the Osun State Presidential Campaign Council, bringing together political stakeholders from Accord, APC and PDP structures in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Despite their cooperation at the presidential level, the participating political parties have maintained separate interests in legislative contests.

Adeleke urged political parties to campaign for their respective candidates, reiterating that the electorate would ultimately determine the outcome of the elections.

The governor also called for continued cooperation in resolving the local government crisis, describing the restoration of grassroots administration as important to the state’s political stability.

He maintained that allegations of an agreement to share legislative seats were unfounded and should not be presented as facts.
