President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Kaduna State on Saturday to officially launch the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign ahead of the 2027 general election.

Party officials and political leaders, including APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Presidential Campaign Council Director-General Senator Abdul’aziz Yari an, and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.

Vice President Shettima also arrived in the state alongside his wife, Nana Shettima, as governors, elected officials, party stakeholders and supporters gathered for the campaign event.

Shettima’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, confirmed the development in a statement announcing the commencement of the ruling party’s nationwide presidential campaign.

According to the statement, the campaign launch at Kaduna Township Stadium provides a platform for the APC to present its proposed “Renewed Hope 2.0” agenda and highlight what it considers the achievements of the Tinubu administration.

The party described Kaduna as the starting point of its nationwide campaign activities, with further engagements planned across other states.

The event attracted senior government officials, members of the National Assembly, party executives and supporters from different parts of the country.

Ahead of the President’s arrival, security was tightened across Kaduna metropolis, with personnel deployed to major roads, junctions and locations surrounding the campaign venue.

Security agencies involved in the arrangements included the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Some roads were temporarily closed to accommodate security operations and the movement of presidential and other official convoys.

Muhammadu Buhari Way and adjoining routes experienced restrictions, resulting in traffic congestion and disruption to movement in parts of the city.

Supporters carrying APC flags, banners and campaign materials gathered around the venue as party officials prepared for the event.

The campaign launch followed weeks of preparations by the APC Presidential Campaign Council, which had earlier announced October 24 as the date for the commencement of its presidential campaign.

Yari previously disclosed that the council had developed a schedule of campaign visits covering several states, including Borno and Rivers.

The Kaduna gathering marks the beginning of a new phase of political mobilisation by the ruling party as candidates and political organisations intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
