The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count charge involving alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claimed to be the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC).
Justice Mohammed Umar discontinued proceedings following an application by the Federal Government to withdraw the charges after reviewing the case.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation had identified legal and procedural issues requiring the prosecution to reconsider the appropriate court for the case.

Oyedepo explained that the Federal Government intended to institute fresh proceedings against Adeyemi before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to the prosecution, the alleged forgery of documents connected to Adeyemi’s activities as head of the purported investment promotion council could be prosecuted before the FCT High Court.
The case was initially instituted by the Nigeria Police Force before the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation assumed responsibility for the prosecution.
During Monday’s proceedings, Oyedepo requested that the existing charges be struck out to enable the government to pursue the matter before the appropriate court.
Defence counsel Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application.
Justice Umar subsequently granted the request and struck out the charges, bringing the proceedings before the Federal High Court to an end.
Adeyemi had been arrested on July 14 following a bench warrant issued by the court over allegations relating to the operation of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council.
He was subsequently arraigned on eight counts involving alleged forgery, fraud and impersonation.
The defendant pleaded not guilty, after which the court ordered his remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending further proceedings.
During the trial, Adeyemi applied for bail on medical grounds, claiming that he suffered from a contagious illness requiring urgent attention from his doctors.
The prosecution opposed the application, arguing that adequate medical facilities were available to address his health concerns while in custody.
However, the court had not determined the bail application before the Federal Government withdrew the charges.

Among those previously listed as potential prosecution witnesses were the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Paul Emmanuel; Jeremiah Imoukhede; and Ituah Sylvester.
Others included officials of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, identified as Akimbo Shola and Adamu Balongu, as well as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The decision to strike out the charges does not amount to an acquittal or a determination of Adeyemi’s guilt or innocence.
The Federal Government has indicated its intention to commence fresh proceedings before the FCT High Court, although no date for a new arraignment was specified in the report.
