Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Chima Anyaso, has urged Nigerian youths to reject electoral violence and resist attempts by politicians to use them to disrupt the 2027 general elections.

Anyaso appealed on Wednesday in Uzuakoli, Abia State, during the presentation of his manifesto and the signing of a social pact with residents and stakeholders of Bende Local Government Area.

The event brought together representatives from the constituency’s 13 wards, including traditional rulers, youth organisations, civil society groups and political supporters.

Addressing the gathering, Anyaso warned young people against participating in political violence, intimidation and electoral malpractice, stressing that political ambitions should never take precedence over human lives.

“No election is worth your life. No politician’s ambition is worth destroying your future,” he declared.

The Labour Party candidate described the social pact as a commitment to addressing the development needs of communities across Bende Federal Constituency.

He pledged to prioritise infrastructure, healthcare, education, youth empowerment and economic opportunities if elected to the House of Representatives.

According to him, his legislative agenda would focus on attracting road projects, improving access to healthcare facilities, supporting educational development and creating opportunities for young people and women through skills acquisition and empowerment programmes.

Anyaso also criticised what he described as inadequate representation and poor execution of development projects in the constituency.

He urged residents to demand greater transparency, accountability and measurable results from elected representatives and those seeking public office.

Speaking on political representation, Anyaso promised to serve no more than two terms if elected, citing an existing understanding between the Umunna and Ikwu Isii blocs of the constituency.

He explained that, as a member of the Umunna bloc, he would respect the arrangement and support the emergence of a candidate from Ikwu Isii when the agreed period expires.

The candidate maintained that political leadership should provide opportunities for younger generations rather than encourage the indefinite occupation of public offices.

He also encouraged his supporters to remain committed to peaceful political participation and resist intimidation over their electoral preferences.

Anyaso dismissed suggestions that the outcome of the 2027 election had already been determined, urging eligible voters to exercise their democratic rights without fear.

He commended Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Labour Party leaders and supporters for their backing, while reiterating his opposition to political violence.

Other speakers at the event included the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment, Professor Ijeoma Iheukwumere; Labour Party State Chairman, Peter Azubuike; Abia North Campaign Council Coordinator, Emeka Charles-Kalu; Bende Local Government Mayor, Uwabunkeonye Bassey; and Campaign Council Director, Pastor Okey Dike.

They praised Anyaso’s initiative and expressed support for his candidacy.

The event concluded with renewed calls for peaceful political engagement, responsible campaigning and greater accountability in political representation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
