President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 consecutive years as head of government, describing the milestone as a rare achievement in a democracy.

Modi’s continuous tenure began on October 7, 2001, when he became Chief Minister of Gujarat. He served in the position for more than 12 years before becoming India’s Prime Minister in 2014.

In a congratulatory message marking the anniversary, Tinubu said Modi’s quarter-century in leadership reflected the confidence Indian voters had continued to place in him.

The Nigerian President praised Modi’s leadership and highlighted developments in infrastructure, digital public services, financial inclusion and innovation during his years in government.

Tinubu also recalled Modi’s state visit to Abuja in November 2024, during which Nigeria conferred on the Indian leader the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON.

He said the visit strengthened cooperation between Nigeria and India in trade and investment, energy, defence and security, healthcare, education and technology.

Tinubu described Nigeria and India as important democracies and voices of the Global South, saying both countries shared an interest in promoting a fairer and more inclusive international system.

He expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to deepen and wished Modi good health, strength and success as he continues to lead India.
