British authorities have charged two Iranian nationals over an alleged plot targeting the Jewish community in Manchester ahead of Yom Kippur.
The Crown Prosecution Service said Rahman Salehi, 35, and Salam Ahmadyan, 36, were charged with engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism.
The alleged offences relate to activities in Greater Manchester on or before September 20, the eve of Yom Kippur, one of the most significant days in the Jewish calendar.
British counterterrorism police said the two men were arrested in Manchester on September 20 following an investigation into the alleged plot.
Authorities also alleged that the suspects had been in contact with a third person overseas who may have been in Iran. Investigators have not established in court that the Iranian government was involved.

The precise target of the alleged plot has not been publicly disclosed.
Prosecutors said the investigation concerned an alleged incident targeting Manchester’s Jewish community and stressed that the charges did not amount to findings of guilt.
Salehi and Ahmadyan are due to appear before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, October 3.
The charges come amid heightened security concerns surrounding Jewish communities in Britain.
The case is separate from another investigation concerning an alleged plot linked to RAF Fairford, a British military base used by United States forces.
British authorities have said there is no established connection between the two investigations.

The allegations against Salehi and Ahmadyan will now be considered through the British criminal justice system. Both defendants are entitled to a fair trial, and the charges against them have not been proven in court.
