A former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Wafari Theman, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the Young Progressives Party.
Mr Theman unveiled his 17-point development agenda on Monday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, saying he was seeking to introduce modern technology and skills into governance to accelerate the state’s development.
He said technology could play a major role in tackling insecurity, particularly by improving the ability of security agencies to detect and respond to threats.
“With modern technology, tackling insecurity in Adamawa State cannot be a difficult task. Security has gone beyond carrying an AK-47 into the forest; you use technology to detect where your enemies are and launch an attack without missing your target,” he said.
The governorship aspirant said that, if elected, his administration would establish Security Trust Funds as part of measures to address the state’s security challenges.
He said his manifesto, which contains 17 priority areas, was designed around what he described as practical and evidence-based solutions to the challenges confronting the state.
Mr Theman said his proposed security strategy would adopt a broad-based approach involving traditional rulers, civil society organisations, religious bodies, youths and women’s groups.
He also said his administration would place greater emphasis on rural communities, where a significant proportion of the state’s population resides.
According to him, the plan would include efforts to promote development in rural areas and revive cultural values through coordinated programmes involving relevant stakeholders, including security agencies.
On education, Mr Theman promised to prioritise access to basic education for children across the state.
“Under my government, no child will be out of school nor denied the opportunity to have basic education on account of poverty or financial standing of his parents,” he said.
He also said his administration would undertake reforms in the health sector to address what he described as existing gaps in healthcare delivery across the state.
Mr Theman said the remaining areas of his agenda would focus on policies aimed at improving the overall development and welfare of residents if he emerges as governor in 2027.
