The Delta State Government has announced a financial commitment exceeding ₦2 billion to sponsor eligible Christian pilgrims to Israel and Jordan for the 2026 pilgrimage exercise.
The Commissioner for the Bureau of Special Duties, Erijo Etacherure, disclosed this in Asaba on Friday while briefing the State Head of Media for the pilgrimage, Dr Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe.
Etacherure said the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) would conduct screening for intending pilgrims on November 11 and 12 at the Christian Association of Nigeria Secretariat in Asaba, beginning at 10 a.m. daily.
He directed applicants who had collected registration forms to complete and submit them to the Office of the Executive Secretary, Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, on or before November 9.

The commissioner warned that applications submitted after the deadline would not be considered, adding that candidates must present valid international passports during screening.
According to him, the NCPC will determine applicants’ eligibility, and its screening decisions will be final.
Etacherure explained that individuals who had previously benefited from government-sponsored pilgrimages to Israel or Jordan would not qualify for the 2026 programme.
He said successful applicants would receive full sponsorship, alongside additional financial assistance for personal expenses during the religious journey.
The commissioner described the initiative as part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to supporting the spiritual well-being of residents.
He maintained that Christian pilgrimage offered opportunities for spiritual reflection, religious education and visits to historical locations associated with biblical events.
Etacherure also expressed confidence that beneficiaries would return with renewed commitments to peace, tolerance and responsible citizenship.
He explained that the government regarded spiritual tourism as a component of its broader human development strategy.

On welfare arrangements, the commissioner assured applicants that preparations had been made to provide accommodation, logistical support and medical services throughout the pilgrimage.
He said the Delta State medical team would collaborate with the NCPC medical team to attend to pilgrims’ healthcare needs.
The commissioner further disclosed that officials of the State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board had undertaken preparatory inspections of facilities in Israel and Jordan.
He urged intending pilgrims to comply with the registration requirements and participate in the mandatory screening exercise.
Etacherure also called on residents to continue praying for peace, unity and sustainable development in Delta State and Nigeria.
