Lionel Messi scored his 930th career goal on Sunday night as Inter Miami were held to a 2-2 draw by San Diego FC in a Major League Soccer fixture.
San Diego took an early lead in the 12th minute when Anders Dreyer chipped the ball over Inter Miami goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair after receiving a through pass from Jeppe Tverskov.
Messi equalised 12 minutes later with a superb free-kick after he was fouled just outside the penalty area.
The Argentine forward curled his left-footed effort over the defensive wall, with the ball hitting the post before crossing the line beyond San Diego goalkeeper CJ dos Santos.
The goal was Messi’s 20th in MLS this season and the 75th free-kick goal of his career.
It also took his tally for Inter Miami to 101 goals, just four days after he scored his 100th goal for the club in their Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.
Inter Miami completed the comeback in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez scored to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
San Diego, however, responded eight minutes from full time when Dreyer scored his second goal of the match to restore parity.
The result extended Inter Miami’s run of consecutive MLS draws to four.
The club now has 46 points from 26 matches, with 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws.
At 39, Messi continues to add to his career goal tally while remaining a key figure in Inter Miami’s MLS campaign.
