The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election in Kano State, with its candidate, Hussaini Yusuf Datti, polling 22,890 votes.
Datti was declared winner after securing a wide lead over the other candidates in Saturday’s election.
The Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, finished second with 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, recorded 108 votes. The Action Democratic Party, ADP, polled 89 votes; the All Progressives Congress, APC, secured 53 votes, while the Labour Party, LP, received 39 votes.
The election was conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to fill the vacant seat representing Dawakin Kudu in the Kano State House of Assembly. INEC had listed the constituency among four legislative bye-elections conducted across Kano, Gombe, Bauchi and Delta states on Saturday.
The vacancy followed the movement of the constituency’s former lawmaker, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, to the House of Representatives after he won an earlier bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency.
That federal seat had become vacant following the death of its former occupant, Muhammad Hassan, in Abuja on April 10, 2026.
Nagoggo’s subsequent election to the National Assembly left the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat vacant, leading to Saturday’s poll.
The result keeps the constituency under APC representation following the latest round of legislative bye-elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
