Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has described the conduct of Saturday’s by-election in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency as peaceful and orderly.
Mr Yahaya spoke after casting his ballot at the Yahaya Umaru 010 polling unit, where he also expressed satisfaction with the turnout recorded in the election.
The governor said the level of participation was encouraging despite the poll being a bye-election.
“The process is as usual well arranged and very peaceful, and you can see the turnout is good. I’m happy that people are enthusiastic even though this is a bye-election,” he said.
Mr Yahaya said reports from the three local government areas that make up the federal constituency indicated that voting was proceeding without major disruptions.
“It’s about the same report; everywhere, people are happy. It’s only three local governments, Gombe, Kwami, Funakaye, and I have gotten reports that the election is going on well and it will end well,” he said.
The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Jamilu Gwamna, also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct of the election.
Mr Gwamna, who voted at the Saidu Mangu 007 polling unit, said the exercise had increased his confidence in preparations for the 2027 general elections.
“This gives us confidence that the upcoming election in 2027 will be organised in a much better way. We are very satisfied with the current arrangement,” he said.
He said he was not aware of any major hitch during the voting exercise and described voter participation at his polling unit as satisfactory.
“As far as I know, there are no hitches. The participation is satisfactory,” he said.
The APC candidate for the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency, Usman Kallamu, similarly expressed satisfaction with the voting process.
Speaking at Duban Fulani, Mr Kallamu said he had received reports from other parts of the constituency indicating that voting was progressing smoothly.
“Honestly speaking, when I look at what is going on in Duban Fulani here, and I called other places like Gombe, Kwami, Funakaye, I told myself that the way the election is going on is very satisfactory,” he said.
Mr Kallamu said he expected to win the election, citing what he described as encouraging turnout at his polling unit. “I expect to win.
As of now, I’m very comfortable with what they have done so far. The turnout is okay as of now. “Look around, you will see those in queue,” he said.
