The Kwara State Police Command has presented financial assistance totalling N10,613,786.50 to the families of 19 police officers who died while serving in the line of duty.
The cheques were presented on Monday at the command headquarters in Ilorin by the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The command said the intervention was part of the Nigeria Police Force’s continuing welfare initiatives aimed at supporting dependants of personnel who lost their lives in the course of service.
According to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the assistance was intended to provide some financial relief to the affected families and reinforce the Force’s commitment to the welfare of deceased officers’ dependants.
Presenting the cheques, Adekimi urged the beneficiaries to manage the funds responsibly, with particular attention to the welfare and education of their families.
The commissioner acknowledged that the financial support could not compensate for the loss of the deceased officers but said it represented the Force’s recognition of their sacrifices and its continued concern for the families they left behind.
He also commended the IGP for sustaining welfare programmes designed to assist families of police personnel who die in active service.
Adekimi said the intervention would provide some measure of relief to the beneficiaries while reassuring serving officers that the Nigeria Police Force remained concerned about the well-being of their families, even after they died in service.
Speaking on behalf of the 19 beneficiaries, M.T. Moshood expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force for remembering the families of the deceased officers.
Moshood described the intervention as a meaningful gesture that demonstrated that the families of officers who sacrificed their lives in the service of the nation had not been forgotten.
The Kwara State Police Command reiterated its commitment to personnel welfare and to honouring officers who lose their lives while carrying out their responsibilities to the country.
