The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged child sexual abuse case involving a minor.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said on Friday that the suspect was arrested following information about a disturbing video allegedly showing her sexually abusing a child.

Police operatives also rescued four children, aged two, three, six and nine, during the operation and recovered sex toys and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation.

Ikenga said the suspect was being investigated for an alleged child pornography-related offence in the Onitsha area of the state.

He added that the woman’s husband was also being interrogated to determine whether he had any connection with the alleged offence.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, described the allegation as disturbing and unacceptable, particularly because it involved the alleged exploitation of children.

He ordered a thorough investigation and directed that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection.

The police said they would work with relevant child-protection agencies to provide counselling and other support to the children while ensuring that their identities and privacy were protected.

The command also commended residents, vigilante operatives and bloggers whose information reportedly helped the police locate and arrest the suspect.

Child sexual exploitation and child pornography are criminal offences under Nigerian law, with penalties including lengthy terms of imprisonment upon conviction, the Command stated
