A fire outbreak at the Idu Train Station in Abuja has damaged some electrical installations, but train services between Abuja and Kaduna remain unaffected.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) confirmed the incident, which occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
According to the NRC, the fire started in the station’s low-voltage electrical room and was quickly contained by maintenance personnel.
The corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said preliminary checks showed that some electrical cables connected to control panels were damaged.
He added that the station’s alternative solar power system was not affected, while power had been temporarily restored to the lifts and escalators, with five of the six facilities operational.
Unyimadu assured passengers that the incident would not disrupt the Abuja-Kaduna train service and that scheduled operations would continue normally.
He said the NRC technical team was investigating the cause of the fire and working to permanently restore the affected installations.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has also been notified to provide technical support.
