The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have filed separate petitions challenging the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, which returned Governor Ademola Adeleke for another term.
The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal formally acknowledged the petitions on Monday by displaying them on its notice board at the tribunal secretariat in Osogbo.
The petitions, dated September 5, 2026, mark the beginning of the judicial process for resolving disputes arising from the election.
The development followed confirmation by the tribunal’s Secretary, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the election result had been filed.
When Vanguard visited the tribunal secretariat on Monday, Mr Belemore and other officials were in the courtroom preparing for the commencement of proceedings.
The APC petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by the party’s governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The petition lists Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as respondents.
The PDP’s petition, numbered EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola against Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party.
The filing of the petitions is expected to trigger further stages of the tribunal proceedings, including the service of court processes on the parties and subsequent hearings.
Officials of the Accord Party and members of its legal team were also seen arriving at the tribunal premises as preparations for the legal proceedings continued.
