The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has dismissed a call by Ewa Okpo, who describes himself as the publicity secretary of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for Governor Umo Eno to leave office following the outcome of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.

In a statement signed by the APC state publicity secretary, Chief Patrick Edeke, the party described Okpo’s position as politically motivated and argued that the outcome of an election in Osun State could not be used as a measure of the performance or political standing of the Akwa Ibom governor.

The APC said the people of Osun had exercised their constitutional right to choose their governor and that their decision should be respected. However, it rejected what it described as an attempt to draw a direct political connection between the Osun result and developments in Akwa Ibom.

The party also challenged claims that the Eno administration had failed to deliver visible infrastructure and other development projects across the state.

According to the APC, the administration has initiated the construction of more than 1,300 kilometres of roads and 41 bridges since taking office, with a further 167 kilometres approved in 2026.

It said the state government approved N123.5 billion in April 2026 for mobilisation, right-of-way compensation and outstanding certificates linked to new road projects covering more than 167 kilometres.

The party cited the Nsit Atai–Okobo Road and the 11-kilometre Owot Uta–Nung Oku–Edeobom Road among projects it said contradicted claims that little or no infrastructure was being developed in the state.

The APC also highlighted the completion of the international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport and the commencement of international flights from the facility.

Other projects listed by the party include the Aviation Village, Arise Palm Resort, Ibom International Convention Centre, Ibom International Hospital and renovation work at the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort.

On social intervention, the party said the administration had constructed and handed over 461 Arise Compassionate Homes, equipped with solar power and water facilities, while also providing grants to beneficiaries.

It further pointed to a N2 billion agricultural grant, support with farm inputs and equipment, as well as the approval of N2.5 billion for 620,000 oil-palm seedlings under the state’s tree-crop programme.

The APC said the health sector had also received attention through the establishment and upgrading of primary healthcare centres and the provision of ambulance services for emergencies.

The party claimed that the ambulance network was designed to achieve a maximum response time of 10 minutes.

It also said the government had paid more than N90 billion out of N111 billion in inherited gratuity and other outstanding emolument liabilities, while continuing efforts to clear the remaining backlog.

The APC urged political actors to base their criticism of the government on verifiable information rather than what it described as exaggerated or misleading claims.

The party also questioned Okpo’s authority to speak on behalf of the political platform he claimed to represent, describing the political identity as lacking relevance in the state’s current political landscape.

It maintained that political opposition and criticism were legitimate components of democracy but insisted that such criticism should be based on evidence.

The APC further appealed to Akwa Ibom residents to assess the Eno administration based on its record in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, aviation, tourism, rural development and social welfare.

It rejected the use of inflammatory rhetoric and what it described as misinformation to influence public opinion.

The party said Governor Eno, having been elected by the people of Akwa Ibom, remained constitutionally entitled to serve out his mandate, stressing that the appropriate place to determine the state’s political future was the ballot box.

The APC concluded by urging residents to reject divisive rhetoric and demand factual information from all political actors.

“Political opposition is legitimate, but it must be anchored in facts and evidence,” the party said, adding that history would ultimately judge political actors by their contributions to the development of Akwa Ibom State.
