The Rivers State Government has dismissed reports of a disagreement between the executive and legislative arms of government over the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill.
The government described the reports published by some national newspapers and online platforms as misleading, saying Governor Siminalayi Fubara was not at loggerheads with members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
In a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nzeshi Onwuka, the government said Fubara was working with the lawmakers in the interest of residents of the state.
The statement said the 2026 budget proposal had already been presented to the House of Assembly and was undergoing the normal legislative process.
“The 2026 Budget proposal has been presented to the House of Assembly, and it is going through the normal legislative process,” the statement said.
It expressed confidence that the lawmakers would pass the budget after completing the legislative process.
The government said Rivers State had experienced difficult periods in the past and was unwilling to be drawn into another round of controversies.
It therefore urged individuals and groups promoting what it described as negative narratives to desist from such actions.
According to the statement, the state needs peace and cooperation between its institutions to sustain development.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining harmony between the executive and legislature and ensuring the steady development of Rivers State.
