Akwa Ibom State Government has strengthened efforts to tackle youth unemployment through a strategic partnership with Jobberman Nigeria to deliver soft skills training across the state.
The Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Princess Emem Ibanga, reaffirmed the government’s commitment during an inspection of training centres on Tuesday in Uyo and Nsit Atai Local Government Area. She was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs. Eno Akpan.
The inspection covered facilities at Akpasak Estate in Uyo, as well as centres in Ikot Inyang and Odot, where batches of young participants are undergoing training designed to enhance employability.
The programme, implemented by Jobberman Nigeria in collaboration with The Mastercard Foundation and supported by the state government, focuses on equipping youths with essential workplace skills required in today’s labour market.
Addressing participants, the Commissioner urged them to take the training seriously, noting that the initiative was designed to open doors to employment and personal growth.
She emphasized that the Governor Umo Eno-led administration is committed to ensuring transparency and equal access to opportunities, adding that beneficiaries are selected based on merit rather than personal connections.
Ibanga also noted that while the impact of the training may not be immediate, the skills acquired would prove valuable in the long term. She disclosed that successful participants would be enrolled in the Jobberman database, thereby increasing their chances of securing employment.
Speaking on the initiative, Jobberman Team Lead in Akwa Ibom, Barr. Maria Akpan, said the programme is part of a nationwide effort to prepare young Nigerians for the workforce. She explained that the training covers key areas such as emotional intelligence, workplace relationships, CV writing, and interview skills.
According to her, participants will receive certificates upon completion, while similar training sessions are ongoing across the state, with about 300 youths per batch.
One of the participants, Miss Happiness Samuel, described the programme as impactful and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to acquire skills that enhance employability.
The initiative underscores the state government’s drive toward youth empowerment and inclusive development through strategic partnerships and capacity-building programmes.
