The Nigerian Army has detained two soldiers accused of providing unauthorised security at the wedding of social media personalities Peller and Jarvis in Lekki, Lagos.
The soldiers, identified as Privates Onasanya Ifeoluwa and Ukpai Onyinyechi, are attached to the Nigerian Army Medical Services and Hospital in Obalende.
The 81 Division spokesperson, Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, confirmed that the two personnel were taken into custody on Tuesday following the circulation of videos showing them in uniform performing security duties at the celebrity wedding.
One of the viral videos reportedly showed a soldier escorting TikTok personality Ivanna through the crowded venue.
The incident sparked public criticism and raised questions about whether the soldiers had official approval to provide security at the private event.
The alleged deployment has also drawn attention because of the government’s policy restricting police and military escorts for individuals who are not legally entitled to such protection.
The Army has maintained that its personnel are not permitted to undertake private security duties or participate in unauthorised deployments.
Preliminary investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the soldiers’ presence at the wedding and whether other military personnel were involved.
The wedding, held in Lagos over the weekend, attracted several entertainers, influencers and other prominent personalities, with footage from the event widely circulated on social media.
