The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has credited its partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for helping the agency achieve the enrolment target set by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr Agala, disclosed this while receiving members of the Rivers State Tuberculosis Network during an advocacy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
According to her, the agency has been conducting National Identification Number (NIN) registration alongside enrolment into its health insurance programmes since March 2026, a strategy she said has significantly improved participation and enabled RIVCHPP to meet its enrolment target under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Dr Agala noted that integrating NIN registration with health insurance enrolment has made it easier for eligible residents to access the scheme and strengthened the agency’s implementation of the programme.
She urged the Rivers State Tuberculosis Network to support efforts aimed at identifying communities experiencing challenges with NIN registration and to notify the agency for appropriate intervention.
The RIVCHPP boss also called on the network to intensify advocacy and community mobilisation to encourage more residents to enrol in the state’s health insurance scheme through sustained engagement with relevant stakeholders.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Rivers State Tuberculosis Network, Messiah Fyneface Muzan, said the visit was intended to strengthen collaboration with RIVCHPP and explore strategies for improving community access to affordable healthcare services through the state’s contributory health protection programme.
