The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has confirmed the death of one of its senior officers, Colonel A.A. Ude, who was killed during an attack by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Abuja.
In a statement signed by Captain J.E. Oti, Acting Assistant Director, Protocol, Defence Intelligence Agency and issued on Tuesday, the agency said the incident occurred at about 10:45 p.m. on July 27, 2026, at Phase 5, Army Housing Estate, Kurudu, in the Federal Capital Territory.

The DIA described the killing as a tragic loss, noting that the late officer served the country with exceptional dedication, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the defence and security of Nigeria.
“The Defence Intelligence Agency regrets to announce the tragic death of one of its senior officers, Colonel A.A. Ude, following an attack by unidentified assailants at his residence,” the statement read.
The agency disclosed that security and law enforcement agencies have launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to identify, apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the attack.
It said the DIA is working closely with relevant security authorities to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the killing are thoroughly investigated and that justice is served.

The intelligence agency extended its condolences to the family of the deceased officer, his colleagues and the wider Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing his death as a painful loss to the nation’s security community.
The DIA also reaffirmed its constitutional responsibility to safeguard Nigeria’s security, assuring the public that it would continue to collaborate with other security agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice.
