Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has described Spain youngster, Lamine Yamal as a player with a “very bright future” ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 showdown.

Portugal will take on Spain in one of the standout fixtures of the knockout stage, with Ronaldo expected to lead his side against a Spanish team widely regarded as one of the tournament’s strongest.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, the 41-year-old was asked about Yamal, who has emerged as one of Spain’s key players.

Ronaldo praised the young forward’s potential but stressed that Portugal’s focus would be on Spain as a team rather than any individual.

“Lamine is a player with a very bright future,” Ronaldo said.

“I didn’t see any of Spain’s matches. I only saw a bit of the game against Cape Verde, but as I said, he has a very bright future.

“But I see Spain as a whole. They’re very good, they play very well, and it will be very tough.”
