China has pledged to deepen its long-standing relationship with Nigeria, reaffirming its commitment to expanded cooperation in governance, economic development and strategic engagement as the Communist Party of China marks its 105th anniversary.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, said the CPC’s leadership has been central to China’s transformation into the world’s second-largest economy and a major contributor to global economic growth.
According to the envoy, the party has guided China through sustained economic development and social stability since its establishment in 1921, remaining focused on national rejuvenation and improving the living standards of its citizens.

Yu noted that China is currently pursuing high-quality development, strengthening its industrial capacity and recording significant advances in science and technology as it transitions from its 14th to the 15th Five-Year Plan.
He attributed the country’s progress to a development model tailored to China’s unique national conditions rather than one copied from Western nations, adding that the approach has provided an alternative path to modernisation for many developing countries.
The ambassador identified independence and self-reliance, people-centred governance, continuous self-reform and theoretical innovation as the four key pillars underpinning China’s development.
He also highlighted achievements under the CPC, including the eradication of extreme poverty, the expansion of education, healthcare and social security systems, as well as ongoing anti-corruption efforts aimed at strengthening governance.
Yu said China has also continued to contribute to global governance through initiatives such as the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilisation Initiative, while promoting the concept of building “a community with a shared future for mankind.”
Speaking on bilateral relations, the ambassador described the relationship between China and Nigeria as one built on mutual trust and cooperation over more than five decades.

He noted that both countries have continued to strengthen political relations and practical cooperation since establishing diplomatic ties in 1971, with collaboration spanning several sectors.
According to him, China remains committed to supporting Nigeria’s development objectives and respects the country’s efforts to pursue a development path suited to its national circumstances.
Yu said both nations have continued to deepen engagement through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation while exploring ways to align China’s 15th Five-Year Plan with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Looking ahead, the ambassador said Beijing is ready to further strengthen its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Nigeria through increased political dialogue, governance exchanges and expanded practical cooperation.
He expressed confidence that deeper collaboration between both countries would promote shared prosperity, strengthen China-Africa relations and contribute to global peace and sustainable development.
