Russian authorities said on Tuesday that air defence systems intercepted 419 Ukrainian drones launched in overnight attacks across the country, including in the Moscow region, where a six-month-old infant was reportedly killed.

The latest barrage comes as Ukraine intensifies its long-range drone campaign against Russian territory while Moscow’s military offensive in Ukraine enters its fourth year.

In a statement, Russia’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence units “intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles” during the overnight operation.

Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov said one of the drones struck a private residence in the village of Yevgoryevsk, southwest of the capital.

According to Vorobyov, the attack claimed the life of a six-month-old baby who died while being transported to hospital. Two adults and another child sustained injuries and were admitted for treatment.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin disclosed that Russian air defence systems had destroyed 61 drones targeting the capital since Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces carried out a strike on the Dubna satellite communications centre in the Moscow region, marking the second reported attack on the facility within a week.

Zelensky described the site as a strategic satellite communications installation used for military reconnaissance and coordination of Russian forces operating in occupied Ukrainian territories.

He defended Ukraine’s deep-strike operations inside Russia, describing them as “long-range sanctions” and a legitimate response to Russia’s continued missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.

Ukraine has increasingly targeted military and strategic infrastructure deep inside Russian territory, with some strikes reaching areas as far east as the Ural Mountains.

The latest wave of attacks follows another large-scale Ukrainian drone offensive last week, during which Russia said it intercepted 660 drones between Thursday and Friday one of the largest drone assaults recorded since the conflict began.

A separate Ukrainian drone strike was also reportedly sparked a fire at an oil refinery in southeastern Moscow last week.
