Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have repelled coordinated attacks by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists and inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents during a counter-offensive operation in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The military disclosed that the attacks occurred in the early hours of June 19, 2026, when ISWAP fighters launched multiple assaults on troops’ positions at Dusten Kura and Chara Road within the Buratai axis.
According to a statement issued by the Acting Military Information Officer of OPHK, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops swiftly detected the insurgents’ movements through intelligence reports and responded with a coordinated air and ground operation.
The military said the operation was supported by the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, which deployed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets as well as precision strike platforms of the Nigerian Air Force.
The combined air and ground offensive reportedly disrupted the terrorists’ advance, inflicted substantial casualties on the attackers and forced them to retreat from the area.
Military authorities stated that no casualties were recorded among troops involved in the operation, while the terrorists suffered significant losses in personnel and equipment.
The latest victory, according to the military, highlights the operational readiness of troops and the growing synergy between ground forces and air assets in ongoing counter-insurgency operations across the North-East.
“The precision air support integrated seamlessly with ground forces, disrupted the terrorists’ assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the attackers, forcing them to flee in confusion,” the statement said.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against insurgents and denying them freedom of action within the theatre of operations.
The military also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace and stability in the region.
