Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen has spoken openly about Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the disappointment as a difficult moment for him and his teammates.
The expanded 48-team tournament, which began last week, features nations from across the world. However, Nigeria is missing from the competition despite Africa receiving nine automatic qualification slots and an additional playoff place.
Nigeria’s campaign ended after finishing second in their qualifying group, before being eliminated by DR Congo in the continental playoffs. The result means the Super Eagles will miss the World Cup for a second consecutive edition.

Speaking during a social media livestream, Osimhen admitted the setback has been painful but urged resilience.
“It’s bad, not just for me but for the rest of the guys. We’ve missed out twice in a row. Sometimes life happens, so we just have to keep moving,” he said.
Nigeria last appeared at the FIFA World Cup in 2018, leaving several members of the current squad, including Osimhen, still waiting for their first appearance on football’s biggest stage.
