Five women sustained injuries after two suspects riding a moped allegedly threw acid at them in Jersey City, New Jersey, authorities have confirmed.

According to the Jersey City Police Department, the incident occurred on Monday night near Wilkinson Avenue. The victims were inside a vehicle when the suspects rode past and splashed them with sulfuric acid before fleeing the scene.

Police said all five women were taken to a nearby hospital, where they received treatment for injuries that included skin burns and peeling. Authorities confirmed that the victims are in stable condition and that none of the injuries is considered life-threatening.

The identities of the women have not been disclosed.

The two individuals suspected of carrying out the attack remain at large, and efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend them.

Reacting to the incident, Jersey City Mayor James Solomon condemned the attack and pledged full support for the investigation.
