The Abia State Government has sealed a building in Aba after officials discovered about 100 bags of human faeces stored within the premises.

The discovery was made on Tuesday at No. 16 Ibadan Street, Aba, by officials of the Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Aba Zone.

According to a statement issued by the agency, the bags of human waste were found inside the compound of the property, raising concerns over potential public health risks.

Officials also discovered four basins containing human excreta in the corridor of the building.

The environmental agency described the situation as a serious health concern capable of creating conditions for the spread of disease if not addressed.

ASEPA said a sewage tank was also found inside one of the rooms on the ground floor. The tank was reportedly located directly beneath a bed used by occupants of the building.

Describing the discovery as more than an environmental violation, the agency said the situation posed a potential threat to public health.

Following the discovery, the state government sealed the premises to prevent further access while investigations and corrective measures are carried out.

ASEPA said the sealing was effected on August 18, 2026, pursuant to a court order.

The agency stated that the property would remain sealed until the requirements for addressing the environmental and public health concerns had been fulfilled.

The motive behind the collection and storage of the human waste had not been officially established as of the time of filing the report.

However, some residents who reacted to ASEPA’s social media post alleged that the faeces were being sold to farmers as manure for about ₦10,000 per bag.

The claim had not been independently verified by the agency or authorities.
