The Mayor of Housing, My-Ace China, has stated that the true wealth of Rivers State is not found in its natural resources, but in the capacity, creativity, and potential of its people.

He emphasised that opportunity and progress are determined largely by positioning, which he described as a key driver of possibility and development.

China made the remarks while speaking to journalists after the conclusion of the Strategic Elevation Conference Port Harcourt 2026, held at Heliconia Hotel and Park.

Rismadarvoice gathered that the event was convened by internationally recognised leadership expert and motivational speaker, Fela Durotoye, and brought together entrepreneurs, youths, and professionals focused on leadership and personal development.

Reflecting on the outcomes of the conference, China noted that one of the central lessons was the need to reposition young people as active contributors to nation-building rather than future leaders. According to him, the concept of “leaders of tomorrow” is outdated, as real transformation requires empowering youths to take leadership roles in the present.

He stressed that young people must be deliberately developed, equipped, and entrusted with responsibilities today in order to shape a better society, rather than being postponed to an uncertain future.

China also commended Dr Brian Reuben, the convener of the conference, describing him as a globally recognised thought leader and author whose work continues to inspire leadership development across different regions. He lauded Reuben’s contribution to intellectual discourse and capacity-building initiatives, particularly within Nigeria.

In his separate remarks, Fela Durotoye described My-Ace China as a valuable asset to Port Harcourt, noting his commitment to development-oriented projects and leadership advocacy. He said the city holds immense potential to become a globally competitive urban centre if residents and stakeholders prioritise solving societal problems over personal financial gain.

Durotoye further encouraged participants to embrace a mindset of service, innovation, and responsibility, arguing that sustainable development is only possible when citizens actively contribute to addressing community challenges.

He said that the Strategic Elevation Conference, organised by Dr Brian Reuben and sponsored by the Mayor of Housing, was designed to promote leadership awareness, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment in Rivers State.
