At least three people, including a 22-year-old resident, Abdulmalik Bakare, have been killed after suspected cultists invaded Oreta community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State in a violent nighttime attack.
The incident, which occurred last week Wednesday, has left residents in shock and fear, while police have reportedly arrested six suspects in connection with the attack.
Bakare’s father, Tunde Bakare, confirmed the development on Sunday, saying the Divisional Police Officer handling the case had assured the family of a thorough investigation.

“The DPO said he would ensure that the case is thoroughly investigated,” he said.
Residents said the violence began around 8 p.m. when armed men on motorcycles stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately, forcing people to flee for safety.
A resident, who gave his name as Fasasi, linked the attack to earlier tensions along Gbogbo Road involving a trailer driver and suspected hoodlums.
According to him, some youths had allegedly stopped a truck earlier in the day and demanded payment, despite claims that the required fees had already been settled by the truck’s handlers.
He said the situation escalated when a confrontation broke out, during which a young man reportedly fell under a trailer tyre and died. The police had reportedly described the initial incident as accidental.
Fasasi alleged that the killing sparked retaliation later in the night when armed men returned to the area on motorcycles, shooting sporadically and attacking residents.
He said victims included a shop owner preparing to close for the day, a physically challenged child eating at the time, and another resident who had gone to buy fish.
The identities of the additional victims had yet to be officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.

Residents said the attack created widespread panic, forcing many to abandon their homes as businesses shut down abruptly across the area.
Attempts to reach the Lagos State Police Command for comment were unsuccessful, as calls and messages to the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, were not returned.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations into the cause of the attack and the identities of those involved.
