The House of Representatives on Tuesday observed a minute of silence in honour of former lawmaker, Rt. Hon. Prof. Ini Udoka, following a formal notification of his demise presented on the floor of the House by the Member representing Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, PhD.
Addressing the House during plenary, Rep. Ukpong-Udo informed the Speaker and fellow lawmakers of the passing of Prof. Udoka, who represented Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency in the 6th and 7th National Assemblies. According to the notification, the former legislator died on May 17, 2026, after a brief illness.

In his tribute, Rep. Ukpong-Udo described the late Prof. Udoka as a distinguished legislator, accomplished academic, and dedicated public servant whose contributions to national development and constituency representation left an enduring legacy.
He recalled that Prof. Udoka served in the House of Representatives under the Action Congress (AC) and later the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he earned widespread respect for his commitment to legislative excellence and advocacy for policies aimed at improving the welfare and living conditions of Nigerians.
Following the presentation, the Speaker received the notification and led members of the House in prayers for the peaceful repose of the late lawmaker’s soul. The House subsequently observed a solemn minute of silence in his honour.
Rep. Ukpong-Udo noted that beyond politics, Prof. Udoka distinguished himself as an academic and mentor who inspired many through his service, intellect, and unwavering dedication to the development of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency and Akwa Ibom State.

The lawmaker also extended heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, political associates, and the people of Ikono and Ini Local Government Areas, praying that God grants them the strength to bear the loss.
The late Rt. Hon. Prof. Ini Udoka is remembered as a respected statesman whose years of service in academia and public office contributed significantly to the advancement of his constituency and the nation at large.
