The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Adamawa State has held a solemn farewell ceremony for three corps members who lost their lives in a motor accident along the Narehi axis of the Girei–Song Road on June 3, 2026.

The deceased Jalilat Suleiman, Usman Shuaibu, and Abdullahi Dauda were said to have been returning to retrieve personal belongings after completing their orientation course as members of the 2026 Batch A Stream II when the accident occurred.

The burial ceremony, held at the Specialist Hospital, Yola, was attended by NYSC officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities, family members, fellow corps members, and sympathisers who gathered to pay their final respects.

Witnesses described the atmosphere as deeply emotional, with parents, colleagues, and friends struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of the young graduates whose service year had barely begun.

NYSC officials expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the deceased, assuring that the Scheme would continue to support those left behind.

Representatives of institutions where some of the corps members had been posted also attended the ceremony, describing the deceased as dedicated and promising young Nigerians.

The corps members were later laid to rest following Islamic rites, bringing a tragic end to what was expected to be a year of national service and personal growth.

The NYSC said the loss was deeply painful but urged corps members across the country to remain safety-conscious while travelling during their service year.
