President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on attaining the milestone of becoming India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, describing the achievement as a reflection of sustained public trust and leadership continuity.

In a statement issued from the State House, Abuja, on June 9, 2026, President Tinubu said Modi’s three consecutive mandates demonstrate the confidence the Indian people have placed in his leadership and vision for national development.

He praised the Indian leader’s contributions to governance, noting that his dedication to public service and global engagement continues to inspire many around the world.

“His dedication to public service, commitment to national development, and influential leadership on the global stage continue to inspire millions worldwide,” Tinubu said.

The President also described Prime Minister Modi as both a “great friend of Nigeria” and a “personal friend and trusted ally,” adding that he deeply values their longstanding relationship.

Over the years, I have come to deeply admire his wisdom, courage, and commitment to the progress and prosperity of his nation,” he added.

Tinubu further recalled that Modi is a recipient of Nigeria’s national honour, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), noting that this reflects his contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between Nigeria and India.

He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic and economic ties with India in areas of mutual interest, including trade, technology, and development cooperation.

The President concluded by wishing Prime Minister Modi continued good health, wisdom, and success in his leadership of India.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Nigeria, I wish Prime Minister Modi continued good health, wisdom, and success as he leads India to even greater heights,” the statement read.
