Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded major operational successes with the arrest of a suspected arms courier, recovery of a large cache of ammunition, and the rescue of rustled cattle in separate operations across the North-West region.
According to military authorities, troops of Sector 2 deployed at a checkpoint in Kaura Namoda, Zamfara State, intercepted a vehicle travelling towards Shinkafi Local Government Area on June 5, 2026.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a magazine, and more than 1,000 rounds of ammunition concealed inside a sack of millet.
The suspect, identified as Mustapha Abubakar, aged 42, was arrested and is believed to have been transporting the weapons and ammunition to terrorist elements operating within the region. Military authorities said investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network.

In a related operation, troops of Sector 1 successfully foiled an attempted cattle rustling incident in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State on June 3, 2026.
The operation followed a distress call from a herder whose cattle had been stolen by armed criminals. Acting on the information, troops positioned themselves along the suspected escape route and engaged the rustlers in a firefight.
The criminals were forced to abandon the livestock and flee into nearby bushes under military pressure.
A total of 53 cattle were recovered and subsequently handed over to their rightful owner.
The Theatre Command said the operations underscore the military’s commitment to disrupting the activities of terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, while protecting lives and livelihoods across the North-West.

The Command also commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and security in the region.
