Suspected gunmen have abducted a nine-year-old boy, identified as Olaosebikan Victor, during a midnight attack on Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The attack, which reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m., threw residents into panic as the armed men stormed the community, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee for safety.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers targeted the residence of Olaosebikan Isaac, forcing their way into the building. In a bid to escape, Isaac reportedly fled into a nearby bush, but his nine-year-old son was left behind and abducted by the assailants.

Another resident, Joel Owalekan, was also affected as the attackers allegedly vandalised his property while attempting to break into his home. He escaped without injury.

Security operatives, including the police and local vigilante groups such as the Amotekun Corps, were immediately deployed to the area to begin a search-and-rescue operation.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the incident, saying tactical teams and intelligence units had been mobilised to comb surrounding forests and possible escape routes in a bid to rescue the victim and apprehend the perpetrators.

Police spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi said investigations had commenced and that efforts were ongoing in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure the safe return of the child.

Authorities urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, and to provide any useful information that could assist in locating the abducted boy and tracking down the attackers.

Security agencies say operations in the area have been intensified as part of wider efforts to curb rising cases of kidnapping across parts of southern Nigeria.
