Governor Umo Eno has called on political candidates across all parties to focus on ideas and developmental issues rather than personal attacks as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the closing session of a three-day prayer summit – marking the fourth year of his administration, the Governor stressed that elections are won through credible ideas and performance, not insults or bitterness.

He noted that while Nigerians are constitutionally free to join any political party, political discourse must be conducted with decorum to preserve peace in Akwa Ibom State.
“Insults and name-calling do not win elections. It is ideas that win elections. Let us have a battle of ideas and allow the people to decide,” he said.
Governor Eno urged political actors to avoid vindictiveness and personal attacks, insisting that leadership should be driven by service and responsibility rather than resentment.
He also expressed confidence in his continued leadership, stating that governance must remain focused on development and the collective good of the state.
The Governor further appealed for unity and tolerance among religious leaders, noting that sustained peace and development depend on collaboration across faith communities.
As part of reconciliation efforts, Eno formally received some religious leaders who were previously aligned with opposition interests during the 2023 elections, including Archbishop Cletus Bassey and Rev. Angela Ashong, urging unity in the interest of the state.

He also called on religious leaders to pray for Nigeria’s leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, while reaffirming that Akwa Ibom remains committed to peace, unity, and progress.
The Governor also announced educational support for members of youth and choir groups who participated in the summit, as part of efforts to encourage talent development among young people.
