The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the successful delivery of the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) Project, describing it as a strategic initiative that will enhance energy security and drive industrial growth across Africa.

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, gave the assurance on Wednesday at the 5th Ministerial Meeting of the Steering Committee of the TSGP, involving Nigeria, Algeria, and Niger.

The meeting followed a bilateral engagement with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, where key stakeholders reviewed progress on the multi-country energy project.

Ekpo said technical and commercial discussions among the three nations would continue to strengthen the framework for full project implementation, adding that recent feasibility reviews had confirmed readiness to move the project forward.

He expressed Nigeria’s readiness to collaborate with Algeria and Niger, as well as their respective national oil companies, to accelerate execution of the pipeline.

“We will do everything possible to ensure the project sees the light of the day. This project means a lot to the three countries in terms of industrialisation and job creation,” Ekpo said.

The minister noted that the project holds significant economic potential, particularly in job creation, regional integration, and energy supply across Africa and beyond.

On his part, President Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to the project, expressing optimism that with sustained political will from the partner nations, the pipeline would move from planning to implementation.

He said the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline, once completed, would significantly boost energy security, attract investment, and promote sustainable development across participating countries.
