A final-year student of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL), Sarah Idoko, has been found dead along the Lokoja-Abuja Highway in Kogi State, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
Idoko’s body was discovered on Saturday night near the Crusher area along the Felele axis of Lokoja, after she was allegedly dumped by unidentified persons.
Eyewitnesses said a vehicle was seen stopping briefly at the location around 8 p.m. before speeding away.
Passers-by later found the body by the roadside and alerted security agencies.
Initial reports had identified the deceased as a student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, following the recovery of an identity card at the scene indicating she was enrolled in the Higher National Diploma programme of the Department of Office Technology Management for the 2024/2025 academic session.
However, the Kogi State Police Command subsequently clarified that the deceased was a student of the Federal University Lokoja.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Kankarofi, said investigations were underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible.
“The command is working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and track down those responsible,” the police commissioner said.
He assured residents that the outcome of the investigation would be made public and reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring justice.
Meanwhile, the Association of Nigerian Female Students (ANFS), Kogi State Chapter, condemned the incident and called for a thorough investigation.
In a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Celina James, the association described the death as tragic and unacceptable, urging security agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The group also called for improved security around campuses and student communities, noting that the Felele corridor, a major entry point into Lokoja, has witnessed several security-related incidents in recent years.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of students and residents in the area as authorities continue investigations.
