Suspected gunmen have attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and reportedly made away with firearms belonging to officers on duty.

The incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the immigration facility located along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway, near the NNPC filling station in Ogbomoso.

According to sources, the assailants stormed the office while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market, overpowering officers on duty before seizing their weapons.

The exact number and type of firearms stolen during the attack had not been officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.

After carrying out the operation, the gunmen reportedly fled the scene under the cover of darkness, raising concerns about security in the area.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from security authorities were still ongoing. However, the Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not received any formal briefing regarding the incident.

“I have not received any official report concerning the attack,” the police spokesman reportedly stated.

The attack comes amid growing concerns over insecurity and the proliferation of arms across parts of the country, with security agencies intensifying efforts to combat armed criminal groups.

Authorities are expected to launch investigations into the incident to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and recover the stolen weapons.
