Former Governor of Kano State and Vice Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has distanced himself from a social media message alleging that he is mobilising a protest over the worsening security situation in the country.

In a statement issued on Monday, Kwankwaso described the message as false and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard it.

According to him, neither he nor the NDC is involved in any planned protest, stressing that the party does not support actions capable of disrupting public order or resulting in the destruction of lives and property.

“Our attention has been drawn to a message currently circulating on social media falsely claiming that we are planning a protest over the rising insecurity in the country,” the statement said.

The former governor emphasised that he remains committed to peaceful and constructive approaches in addressing national issues and challenges, including insecurity.

Kwankwaso noted that as a democrat, he believes strongly in the electoral process as the most legitimate avenue for expressing public dissatisfaction and effecting political change.

He further expressed confidence in the NDC’s prospects in the forthcoming elections, stating that the party is focused on securing victory through lawful and democratic means.

“As committed democrats, we firmly believe that the ballot box remains the most legitimate and effective way to express grievances and seek change,” he stated.

The NDC vice-presidential candidate also urged Nigerians to be wary of misinformation and disinformation circulating online, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of future elections.
