Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has disclosed that his administration invested N743 billion in road infrastructure within its first three years in office, resulting in the completion of 1,348 kilometres of roads and 40 bridges across the state.

The governor made the disclosure on Saturday during a media briefing at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Eno said the massive investment was in line with his administration’s commitment to improving connectivity, stimulating economic growth and opening up communities for development under the ARISE Agenda.

According to him, the road projects have cut across the three senatorial districts, linking rural communities with urban centres and enhancing access to markets and other economic opportunities.

“As of today, we have completed a total of 1,348 kilometres of roads within three years, and we are proud of that milestone as a sub-national government,” the governor said.

The governor also announced plans to revive the abandoned 12.15-kilometre Ikot Akpan Abia–Oboyo Ikot Ita–Enen Nsit Road project, describing it as critical to the socio-economic development of the affected communities.

He disclosed that he had directed the reassessment and re-award of the project, with construction expected to commence within one month.

“It will be an aberration for me as an Nsit son not to do the Enen Nsit Road because when I finish serving the people, I will return to the village and they will definitely ask me what I did for them while in office,” Eno stated.

The governor assured residents that the necessary technical evaluations and project scoping were already underway to facilitate the immediate reconstruction of the road.

On road maintenance, Eno directed the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service to constitute a committee, including representatives of civil society organisations, to review previously awarded pothole rehabilitation contracts worth N1.6 billion and identify additional failed road sections requiring urgent intervention.

He also issued a warning to contractors handling the Tabernacle Road project and the 16-kilometre Midim–Atan–Ikot Nyang–Ikot Imonte Road and bridge project, threatening contract termination if the projects are not completed by the July 2026 deadline earlier agreed upon.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, said the N743 billion investment reflected the administration’s determination to tackle infrastructure deficits and lay the foundation for sustainable economic development.

Providing a breakdown of achievements in the sector, Ibanga said 41 inherited road projects spanning 341.359 kilometres and 14 bridges had been completed by the administration.

He added that the figure excludes 43 rural road projects covering 202.83 kilometres being executed under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), supported by the World Bank, African Development Bank, Agence Française de Développement and the state government.

According to him, the administration has also embarked on more than 94 road projects covering 504.902 kilometres across the state, including 25 bridges, eight of which are dual carriageways.
