A 30-year-old decorator, Esohe Aigbe, has been reportedly hacked to death by suspected assailants in Benin City, Edo State.

The incident occurred on May 27 at Ojo Street in the Ogida area of the city, according to reports gathered on Friday.

Aigbe was said to have visited the area to assist a friend with decoration work ahead of a burial ceremony when she was attacked.

A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased had completed the assignment and was still at the venue when she was attacked with a machete.

“The deceased was attacked with a machete at the venue of the burial where she went to do a decorating job. After the attack, the perpetrators left hurriedly,” the source said.

The source added that residents rushed her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where she was confirmed dead due to the severity of her injuries.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, said the command had commenced an investigation into the matter.

She said one suspect had already been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend others involved.

“I’m aware of a murder case in the area. We already have one suspect in our custody, and the investigation is still ongoing as I speak to you,” she said.

The police said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
