The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to resist what it described as intimidation attempts ahead of its planned political activities in Abuja.

The faction said it remained resolute in proceeding with its scheduled special convention despite alleged threats linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the use of a private event facility.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group accused unnamed authorities of attempting to frustrate its preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The faction said proprietors of A Class Event Centre had reportedly been threatened with sanctions, including possible closure of their business premises, if the venue is used for PDP activities.

It insisted that all contractual and security requirements for the event had been duly met.

“We state here, and for the record, that we had furnished consideration in full to consummate the earlier offer and acceptance. Furthermore, we had duly notified all relevant security agencies about the event,” the statement read.

The faction maintained that its special convention to ratify its presidential candidate would go ahead as scheduled at A Class Event Centre, Wuse 2, Abuja, on Saturday, May 30, 2026.

According to the group, Nigeria remains a constitutional democracy governed by law, and no authority has the right to restrict lawful political gatherings.

“We are certain that Nigeria is a country governed by law, and any attempt to use force to suppress political dissent and opposition is an aberration which must be resisted by all people of good conscience,” it added.

The faction also argued that the FCT Minister lacks constitutional powers to determine which political events can be held or approved at private venues.

“There is nowhere in our laws where the Minister of the FCT is empowered to determine events that should be held and where they should be held,” the statement said.

It further described any such interference as incompatible with democratic principles.

The group reaffirmed its decision to proceed with the event and invited party leaders, NEC members, and stakeholders from across the country to attend as planned.
