Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially defected from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Omo-Agege announced his decision on Thursday in a lengthy statement released days after losing the APC Delta Central senatorial primary election.

According to him, the move followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders across the country.

“Today, I formally announce my decision to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC),” he stated.

The former lawmaker said Deltans are demanding leadership rooted in integrity, accountability and visible development, adding that the NDC provides the platform to achieve those goals.

He thanked key NDC leaders for engaging him during the process, including Senator Seriake Dickson, Senator Moses Cleopas, Governor Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

“The NDC represents leadership built on inclusion, accountability, grassroots participation and true federalism,” he said.

Omo-Agege also confirmed his intention to contest for the Delta Central Senatorial seat under the NDC platform in the 2027 elections.

“This is not about me. It is about the mandate entrusted to me in 2019 and the renewed call from our people for my return to the Senate,” he added.

The former deputy senate president criticised the state of infrastructure and governance in Delta State, lamenting poor roads, underfunded health centres, overcrowded schools and rising unemployment despite huge federal allocations to the state.

“Too much of Delta’s wealth sits in CBN accounts while our people suffer from bad roads, collapsed hospitals and abandoned communities. This is not governance,” he said.

He promised to strengthen the NDC structure across Delta State and work towards building a competitive political movement ahead of the next election cycle.

Omo-Agege also pledged to advocate for fair allocation of federal projects, improved healthcare, education, job creation and economic reforms if elected back to the Senate.

Calling on youths, women, traditional rulers and voters to participate actively in the political process, he urged citizens to protect and use their Permanent Voter Cards wisely in 2027.

“In 2027, we will end the era of excuses, empty promises and leaders who vanish after elections,” he declared.

“The work starts now. The time is now. The people are ready.”
