Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to peace, unity, security and inclusive development as Rivers State celebrates its 59th anniversary.

In a goodwill message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, to commemorate the anniversary, the governor stated that despite the challenges experienced over the years, the people of Rivers State have continued to demonstrate resilience, strength and an enduring spirit of unity since the creation of the state.

Governor Fubara noted that the bond of brotherhood among the various ethnic nationalities in the state, including the Ijaw, Ikwerre, Ogoni, Etche, Ekpeye, Andoni and Kalabari people, remains one of Rivers State’s greatest strengths and a vital foundation for peace, stability and progress.

He observed that Rivers State has remained a major contributor to Nigeria’s economy for decades, not only because of its vast oil and gas resources but also due to the exceptional contributions of its people in sectors such as academia, jurisprudence, business, entertainment, public service and sports.

The governor assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise policies and programmes aimed at promoting peace, protecting lives and property and expanding development across all parts of the state.

According to him, governance must remain people-centred and impactful, with equal attention given to every Local Government Area in the state.

Governor Fubara also paid tribute to the elders and founding leaders of Rivers State for preserving the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence over the years.

He urged young people in the state to remain hopeful, responsible and committed to building a greater Rivers State through innovation, hard work and patriotism.

The governor further called on all Rivers people to use the anniversary celebration as an opportunity for reflection and renewed dedication to peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, dialogue and collective progress.

He stressed that the unity and future of Rivers State must always rise above personal interests and political differences.
