The Executive Secretary of the Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), Dr Vetty Agala, has assured residents that Governor Siminalayi Fubara remains committed to prioritising the healthcare needs of vulnerable groups in the state through the RIVCHPP equity initiative and the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).
Dr Agala gave the assurance while receiving members of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Rivers State chapter, during an advocacy visit to her office.
The RIVCHPP Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer explained that the agency is making efforts within available resources to enrol more vulnerable persons into the state’s health insurance scheme.
According to her, Governor Fubara has granted the agency the necessary support and operational freedom to carry out its responsibilities effectively.

Dr Agala further stated that the agency is intensifying efforts to ensure that pregnant women enrolled in its programmes receive adequate healthcare services and deliver safely, to reduce maternal and newborn mortality rates in the state.
Earlier in her remarks, the Rivers State Chairperson of MWAN, Dr Cecilia Nwibubasa, commended RIVCHPP for its extensive health insurance coverage across the state.
She noted that the advocacy visit was aimed at exploring ways both organisations could collaborate to strengthen maternal, newborn and child healthcare outcomes in Rivers State.
Dr Nwibubasa also praised the agency’s efforts towards improving healthcare delivery and urged RIVCHPP to fully implement its existing strategies in order to increase enrollment of Rivers residents into its programmes.
