The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally elected Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe as its candidate for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) senatorial election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kingibe emerged as the winner of the party’s primary election held on Saturday after polling 17,535 votes to defeat her only challenger, Mubarak Tijjani, who secured 806 votes.
Announcing the results at the ADC secretariat in Abuja, the chairman and returning officer for the senatorial and House of Representatives primaries, Abubakar Adamu, declared Kingibe duly elected.

“Having scored the highest number of votes of 17,535, and by the powers conferred on me as the returning officer for the Senate and House of Representatives Primary Elections, Senator Ireti Heebah Kingibe is declared the winner of the election,” Adamu stated.
The party also produced candidates for the two House of Representatives seats in the FCT.
In the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency primary, Bala Iyah emerged victorious with 4,937 votes, defeating Yahaya Fatima Goya, who polled 2,015 votes; Ma’aji Johnson Bello, who secured 1,546 votes; and Ismaila Ishak Ozigi, who got 105 votes.
For the Abaji/Gwagwalada/Kwali/Kuje Federal Constituency, Alhassan Salihu won the party ticket with 9,016 votes, while his challenger, Khalid A. Haruna, polled 2,955 votes.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the conduct of the primary elections.
Speaking after his victory, Bala Iyah expressed confidence in the ADC’s chances in the 2027 elections, describing himself as an experienced grassroots politician with deep knowledge of the constituency.
“I am ready, by the special grace of God, for the 2027 election because my people are ready,” he said.

Iyah added that his acceptance among constituents and years of political involvement would work in his favour during the general election.
“We are ready, not because of money but because of acceptance and because of the good things I have been doing for my people,” he stated.
