Former Kano State governor and National Democratic Congress leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has dismissed allegations that he is secretly working in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political interests ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the denial during an interview with Global TV, describing those circulating the claim as politically uninformed.
“Only fools will believe that we are working for Tinubu. My supporters and I are working for the NDC and for what we believe will benefit Nigerians,” he said.
The former presidential candidate acknowledged a longstanding personal relationship with Tinubu but drew a clear distinction between familiarity and shared political purpose, stating that both men belong to different political camps.

Kwankwaso also levelled criticism at some of the president’s aides, alleging they are shielding Tinubu from the true state of the country’s economic and security conditions while focusing their energy on persuading governors and politicians to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
On the NDC’s alliance with Labour Party’s Peter Obi, Kwankwaso said the decision followed careful consultations and political calculations, describing Obi as the most suitable candidate from southern Nigeria for the coalition’s purposes.

He said the alliance has sufficient time before the 2027 general election to reach voters and counter what he called deliberate misinformation being spread against the coalition.
Kwankwaso said the grouping remains focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative to the current administration.
