According to the ministry, students in boarding schools are expected to proceed on the Sallah holiday beginning Saturday, May 23, 2026, and return to school on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

For day schools, the break will commence on Friday, May 22, 2026, while academic activities are scheduled to resume on Monday, June 1, 2026.

The ministry urged parents and guardians of boarding students to ensure that their children are picked up on the designated closing date and returned promptly on the approved resumption day.

“Parents and guardians of students in boarding schools are advised to pick up their children on the approved closing date and ensure their timely return on the resumption date,” the statement noted.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Ali Makoda, also extended his goodwill message to students, teachers, parents and other stakeholders within the education sector, wishing them a peaceful and memorable Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The holiday announcement is part of preparations for the annual Muslim festival, which is observed by millions of faithful across Nigeria and other parts of the world.
