Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, has announced new restrictions on vehicular movement within the campus following the death of a female resident in a road accident.

The university, in a press release issued on Wednesday by its Acting Registrar, Dr Idanyingi J. Daminabo, said Miss Eno Udoson died on Tuesday, June 23, after she was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven recklessly by two students.

The institution identified the students as Darlington Kosi Onuaku of the Department of Development and Communication Studies and Obinna Daniel Ikechi of the Department of Computer Science.

According to the statement, the two students have been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

“The management of Rivers State University regrets to announce the death of Miss Eno Udoson, a resident of the Main Campus, whose unfortunate demise occurred on Tuesday, 23 June, 2026,” the statement said.

The university expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and described the incident as tragic.

Following an emergency management meeting held on Wednesday, the university announced several measures aimed at improving safety on campus.

The new directives prohibit undergraduate students from driving personal vehicles on campus between 4 p.m. and 7 a.m. Students who bring cars to the university are required to park them at designated car parks near the main entrance and make use of the institution’s shuttle services.

The management also directed that postgraduate and Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) students would only be allowed to drive within the campus upon presentation of valid university identity cards.

In addition, any student found engaging in reckless driving will face suspension, disciplinary action and possible impoundment of their vehicle.

The university further announced that visiting hours at its hotels would end at 6 p.m. daily for security reasons, while speed limits on campus have been fixed at 30 kilometres per hour on major roads and 20 kilometres per hour in residential areas.

RSU said the measures were necessary to enhance safety and prevent a recurrence of similar incidents on campus.
